I think it's time...

Tue Sep 2, 2008, 12:10 PM
That I stop doing things for others and start doing them for myself.

I have a secret. To some it's not a secret only because I chose for it to not be. To others it is... I'm not a kiss and tell kind of guy, but I'm not going to hide anything either. But I decided that I will no longer put my feelings and emotions aside to make others happy. Even if it means they learn about the true me. Even if it means that they might not agree with what I agree with. Even if it means they will not be my friend.

I feel that friends are those who stick by you through thick and thin. That even though you will make mistakes they will tell you "You're an idiot" but still love you the same.

I've gone far to long not living.

Man is born free …but everywhere he is in chains.. - Rousseau

Sometimes the things that are meant to free us enslave us - Unknown

So I decided that the people I'm going to have around me have to abide by certain criteria.

   1. They must accept me for me.
   2. They must not hold any preconceived notions of what I'll be or do. (No out of this world expectations).
   3. They must accept others in my life.
   4. Be genuine.

This is my decree.

P.S. If you've been dating someone for 2 months what do you get them for their birthday?

I'm painting a picture... but I want to do more.

I have a week and 1/2 left.

Dinner's always good. Cook for the person if you can cook. I don't remember whether or not you can. You know what they say, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." And if you can't cook, buying dinner is good too.

I have a very good chicken alfredo recipe, but I don't know about allergies or food restrictions. Maybe you can make a really tasty dessert. Chocolate always works. Unless they hate chocolate. Hmmm...I'd scour FoodNetwork.com for romantic recipes. I wish I could be a fly on the wall. You're sooooo cute right now.

I think it is a balance between doing things for other and for oneself. But I completely agree and I am the first in supporting that they have to love you for who you are. Otherwise it's a lie.
When my husband and I started dating I was completely clear about him having to be OK with me spending time with my best friend (who happens to be a male). He was fine, as I was fine about him spending time with his friend (who was his ex). So I am with you in that one too. They have to accept others in your life.

I think Cris has a good point, flowers are always nice. And you preparing dinner can be totally sweet too.

Yes I agree... I will continue to do things for others. But not at the sacrifice of me. Thanks for the words :).

I'd second Cris on the flowers... I think it's a nice lighthearted gesture, and it's nothing to taste-specific.

I don't care what they say, flowers are always a sweet gesture! Flowers, with a cd of her favorite band. She'll think of you everytime she hears their songs. :XD:

Wise words from a wise man, there :-)

I'm glad you hear that you're seeing someone, wheee :boogie:

About those darn birthday gifts, I'm probably not of much help. Tascha is a gamer, so I keep buying her nerdy-stuff, like gaming consoles and the like, hehe.
Doing a painting is a lovely gift, by the way :cowboy:

We both like nerdy stuff... so even that's good.

The best investment ever was buying Tascha a Nintedo DS :-D
Those hand held ones are just terrific when out travelling, or if you just want to relax on the balcony playing some games :-)

I don't think we're at Nintedo DS point... in some cultures that's like one step below matching luggage.
