What does a person have to do around here to get an Emmy? … or a DD.

So today marks my 11th anniversary on DeviantArt. Thereby making it the longest relationship I've managed to maintain.

In the time I've joined I've mange to grow exponentially as an artist, I even graduated college and stated working as a professional graphic designer.

Here are some interesting stats according to DA

I have 125 Deviations (this number doesn't include the ones I've locked or just plain deleted out of embarrassment)
14,529 pageviews (really in 11 years? ugh!)
119 Watchers (hey there)
I've favorited 1,910 deviations.
My works were however viewed 74,887 times

My most popular work
29 Ways to Stay Creative by eddidit
29 Ways To Stay Creative (With 83 Comments, 751 Favorites and 30,595 views)

I know I don't post much or often here, I actually spend most of my time drooling over everyone else's work. But I do love this website and the community here. I've seen many art communities rise and fall and DeviantArt has stood the test of time. After 11 years I still keep coming around… that's gotta mean something.

Cheers!

Come this Thursday March 18th, I will be turning yet another year older. Now I normally don't make new years resolution aka promises I don't plan to keep. But last year I made somewhat of a resolute… to take advantage of any opportunity that came my way. Now it might not be a resolution but it was something was determined to do… and wow what a great year it has been because of it. Well this year I wanted to do the same thing again. So I decided it was going to be a year of creating things.

A Year of Living Creatively.

Here is the breakdown.

I will start the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron - www.theartistsway.com/. This is a book that is supposed to be life changing for anyone seeking to be creative. It has been recommended to me by tons of people, so really excited to finally start it.

12 Digital Paintings. Yep at least 1 painting a month… doesn't have to be sublime it just has to be a painting.
12 Traditional Artworks of any kind.
52-365 Photos. So I will take at least one picture a week but will try for a picture a day of anything.

So this adventure begins this Thursday. I'm a little nervous, because I tend to lose steam with stuff like this quickly. But I really want to try and stick it through. From the beginning I'm not going to try for perfection as I will set myself up for disaster. I just want to strive to capture something creative no matter how great or mundane it is.

If anyone else is interested in doing something like this let me know and lets encourage one another.

This year I will be walking and participating in the 2009 Kidney Walk in Philadelphia this October. As someone who has gone through kidney failure and now deals with kidney disease, this is a cause that is very close to my heart. Raising awareness and knowledge is needed to help prevent this disease.

Facts about Kidney Disease:
- Chronic kidney disease is a public health problem affecting 26 million Americans

- Risk factors include diabetes, high blood pressure and family history

- One in nine American adults have kidney disease and most don’t know it

- 92,000 people are waiting for organ transplants

- 17 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant

- It is the 9th leading cause of death in the US.

If you would like to donate please stop by my donation page - walk.kidney.org/goto/eddidit to donate (any amount is greatly appreciated)

I will also be selling my Set Free poster - where proceeds will go to achieving my goal of $500 (US). If you would like to purchase this poster please go to www.eddidit.com/kidneywalk/

Thank you to all who has fav'd my work. I would love to go through and personally thank everyone. But I soon saw how far behind I was on doing that. And I just don't have the time. Heh but I still appreciate it.

On another note I started a project called 52. In an attempt to challenge myself while also building my skills, I created 52.  It's 52 themes that are done in a 52minute time frame.  If you want to follow along you can at the Epilogue Forums > www.epilogue.net/cgi/phpBB2/vi… or on Pixelbrush > www.pixelbrush.net/forum/viewt…

Right now I've done 2 themes with 5 pictures.  I'm still tweaking the rules. Right now I'm not sure if I should keep it in the order I have it. I'm an artist I'm meant to break rules especially my own :).

This is not a debate but and observation.

As I've been looking at some artwork lately, I've found myself being drawn to traditional art more and more lately. There is just something about it that is very appealing to me right now. Then I started to think, I actually haven't sat down and drawn anything really in... well I can't even remember. Sure I doodle here and there, but no actual thought out illustrations.

Then I realized that one of the reasons I went digital was because it was easier. But now I really miss drawing. But fear that I might not know what I'm doing any more.

Has anyone else found themselves in this situation. Has going digital effected your ability to use traditional mediums. After all there is no undo or color picker when it comes to traditional. You are stuck with what you do.

If you started off traditional then went to digital, do you ever feel the need to go back. Why did you make the switch in the first place.

I'm not one to make New Years Goals. But I think this is one that I will make. I want to do more traditional work this year. Whether it's through drawing or painting or something.

I just really miss the time I would get completely lost in my work. It's usually not like that with digital for me. So I think I'm going to go and get a new drawing pad tomorrow.

Anyone else thoughts on this subject.
